Spring has officially arrived and soon the world will be filled with beautiful flowers and blooming branches. Today I am going to show you 8 subtle spring decorating ideas that will take you well into summer without breaking the bank!
I love the way making just a few simple changes can completely transform your home. Because let’s be real here, although its great that some people have the time to decorate every square inch of their home as soon as the seasons change, I just don’t have the time nor the desire… Just sayin!
Some of us are super busy and although we love a well-styled home just as much as the next person going all out with leprechaun decor on St Patrick’s day just isn’t in the cards and that’s okay!
Decorating for spring doesn’t have to be time-consuming or even expensive. In fact, most of the things I am going to show you today are pretty affordable and easy.
Think of it like we’re shedding layers and starting over because that is truly what spring is all about right? Say goodbye to old man winter and hello to all of the gorgeous blooms!

8 Spring Decorating Ideas
Shed Those Layers: Typically in the winter we bundle up and layer our homes with chunky knit throws, spring is as good a time as any to trade them in for a much lighter option. In the winter I also like to add extra blankets to all of the beds so use this anywhere you added some extra warmth like to the living room or bedrooms.
Pillow Swap: Spring is the perfect time to change up the throw pillows in your home. If you have invested in pillow covers with down inserts instead of the buying the entire pillow then this is going to be super easy! Unzip those covers and add a new cover, the living room is the perfect place to start. I also use this time to throw the old covers into the wash before I store them. If you are not sure how to mix your throw pillows you can check out this post How To Mix Throw Pillows Like A Boss for some helpful tips. Also if you are in need of a few new spring pillow covers I have linked some of my favorites below.
Add color: Use this season to add color in places that have been missing it all year. Add fresh flowers to the bathroom to make it smell heavenly and also to make guests feel welcome. Add a cute bowl of fresh apples or oranges to the kitchen, for a quick way to brighten things up. You can pick up beautiful flowers from Trader Joes or any grocery store for just a few bucks, they do not have to be expensive.
Let The Light In: We’ve all been cooped up all winter and our bodies could use that good old vitamin D! Pull those curtains back and let some light in, not only will it make you feel better but it will also make your home look bright and beautiful.
Change Your Bedding: In the spring I love to give our master bedroom a quick update. This does not have to be a full-blown makeover and if you have followed the right formula like the one in How To Decorate Like A Pro this is going to come so easy to you. So put away that bulky winter bedding and opt for a new quilt instead. We were able to get one this year on sale so it made sense for our Spring update which I will be showing you guys very soon.
Bring In The Green: Green is pretty much a spring staple and honestly, nothing looks better to me on a completely neutral palette than green! You can add it in small ways all over your home for a quick refresh. There is just something about the color that screams new life! So go outside and grab a few branches to throw in a vase, it doesn’t have to cost a dime. If you would like them to last longer these Eucalyptus sprays are one of my favorite ways to add a touch of green to any space.
New Season New Scent: Our sense of smell is so powerful and switching out your wintertime candle scents for something that is more light and crisp is the perfect way to make your home feel like spring! I have linked one of my favorite springtime candles below.
Spring Clean: I know this isn’t decorating related per se but this is so important that I couldn’t leave it off. Taking the time to clean your home from top to bottom will not only rid your space of anything old and unused but its also a great time to keep up with your home maintenance.
If you don’t love your home it probably won’t love you back and loving it means taking care of those not so pretty things that need to be done.
Plus spring really is the best time to complete those no so lovely home maintenance chores so open up those windows and let the fresh air in while you get busy.
There are tons of people, even people that I know personally that don’t bother decorating at all because they think its too much trouble or would be too expensive, so they decorate once and that is the way it stays year round.
Honestly, I feel this is why so many people are sick of the current situation of their homes, or just not happy with the way their homes look. We should all be happy with our homes, our homes are there to serve our needs and the needs of our family. Home is truly a sacred place, shouldn’t we treat it as such?
If this sounds like it could be you, just remember decorating for spring or any other time of year does not have to be time consuming or expensive.
Taking a little bit of time out of your busy schedule to implement the ideas I’ve given you today can seriously change the way your home feels and most importantly how you feel about your home.

“If you don’t love your home it probably won’t love you back and loving it means taking care of those not so pretty things that need to be done.” How true! Sometimes giving the house a thorough spring cleaning isn’t that fun, but it’s always worth it when I get to let all that sunlight in and change out the cold-weather bedding! Thanks for such affordable tips, and I really enjoy looking at such a pretty living room like yours.

Lela, you’re so sweet! Isn’t it true though? I mean I know I don’t nessecarily enjoy cleaning but it definitely has to be done and Sometimes I think we forget that our homes are absolute work horses and they need to be cared for once in a while. Thank you again for such sweet comments 🙂
