Hello and welcome to our Breath of Fresh Air Spring Home Tour, if you are joining me from Valerie Tyler Collection welcome and I’m Ashley thank you so much for stopping by!
Not only am I excited to be able to share this tour with you guys but I also get to team up with some of my best friends in the blogging world while doing it, which is pretty freakin awesome if you ask me!
Considering that half of our house is currently either a total disaster from the kitchen reno or storing materials from the kitchen reno, today I’ll be showing you a few of the areas that aren’t currently being taken over.
So grab a drink and let’s get this started!
Some of you may already know this but for those of you just now visiting, I am not too big on seasonal decor for a few reasons.
A) I am a certified decor hoarder and my problem is big enough without seasonal decor, I don’t need any help.
B) One of my goals from my 2019 word of the year was to minimize and that’s hard to do when you are storing up four seasons of home decor.
Although I will likely never bust out the easter eggs, I do like changing things up a little for spring.
Our entryway is open to the living room and for the longest time I tried to use this space for things like coats, shoes, and backpacks but the truth is all I was doing was creating a huge dumping ground for the kids to throw everything down the moment they came in.
So at first, I was hesitant to change it up because this was the only space available for a designated “drop zone” but instead I cleaned out the closet for things like coats + shoes then once we were finished with the space I added baskets below the DIY Console Table that could be used as hidden storage for those quick grab items like gloves and scarves if needed.

To my surprise, this area has been the only spot that constantly stays clean!
It takes very little effort on my part which has made life so much easier because who has time for that am I right? Plus there is no longer that frantic rush to clean up the entryway before guests come over and I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out.
As I said before I don’t change things much but adding greenery is one of the easiest ways I have found to make your home feel like spring! Although, my burning secret is I use faux instead of the real thing due to my horrible black thumb and lack of sunlight on this side of the house.
Just off the entryway is our living room, the true hub of our home… where all the magic happens! Not that kind of magic silly!
We are a big tv family and we love to lounge around and watch movies every chance we get so comfort is a huge factor for this space. During the colder months, I like to layer in cozy faux furs but the springtime is all about shedding those layers!
In this space, I start by paring down the decor on our built-ins as well as the mantle for a much cleaner look.
Having a well-designed space doesn’t always have to mean adding decor, sometimes the best thing to do is take some away instead.
The first time I tried this more minimal approach I couldn’t believe the difference it made in how the space felt. It was like our house could instantly breathe! Plus having less stuff means less cleaning which I am all for if you haven’t figured that out by now.
Since there is still a small touch of winter in the air I opted for some cedar stems mixed in with my go to spring staple of eucalyptus and I love the extra layer the mixture adds to this otherwise bland area of our living room. Adding these midcentury style candlesticks was one of the best decisions and I love how much it warmed up the space.
I may not be big on themed decor but the one thing that I do have a lot of fun with and will likely never give up is pillows! Swapping out the pillows from textured faux furs to subtle color and warm masculine leathers is something that I have always enjoyed and its the perfect way to change up the space without spending a ton.
Around Christmas, I added a cozy tribal shag rug to the mix and although it was great for the colder months as soon as the sun started peaking in I knew it was time to bring back old faithful aka this vintage look blue rug!
Rugs are such a huge part of any design and as much as I loved the thought of the tribal shag rug, in this space, the darker rug adds great contrast and simply looks better overall.
Even though spring is almost here and fire is going to be the last thing on our minds it was nice being able to use our fireplace more this year, plus it is way prettier to look at since we completed the makeover. You can see that here.
Next up is our master bedroom and this my friends is our sanctuary!
It is the very first space we made over after we moved in and I cannot tell you what a difference it has made in our day to day lives.
Renovating your own home while also living in it is never easy but having this space to escape all of the demo and construction materials is seriously one of the only things saving my sanity right now!
As with the other rooms we like to keep things light and bright with a few pops of black here and there for contrast so basically its spring in our house everyday!!
During the winter months having a thick extra blanket at the end of the bed is important for the added warmth but for spring simply swapping out the blanket for something much thinner gives the room a totally different vibe!
On the opposite side of our living room is the guest bedroom. It is simple and I love the clean vibe it gives off while still blending well with the rest of our house. The idea for the space when I started was to keep everything beachy feeling because my stepson spends a lot of time in this space and being from the west coast he loves spending time at the beach. Using blue hues and beachy prints easily make the space perfect for spring no matter how its feeling outside.
When we moved into our house it was listed as a 3 bedroom plus an office which made it perfect for us considering when all of the kids are here there are four total and only having two bedrooms just doesn’t work when one kid is boy so we converted the office to feel more like a bedroom and I cannot tell you how much this has come in handy especially in the past few weeks since my husbands youngest daughter moved in with us.
The space isn’t huge, in fact, it’s pretty small but it is just enough to fit a tv, small console and this tufted daybed which makes it perfect for the kids and makes us feel good knowing that they each currently have their own space.
That wraps it up guys!
I wish our entire house was done so I’d have more spaces to show you but we have lots of projects going including our total kitchen renovation which is currently happening as we speak so if you’re new here I hope you’ll sign up for my email list so we can be friends!
Nevertheless, I hope you’ve enjoyed my spring home tour and that it was not only inspirational but also gave you some informative tips to try in your own home.
Keep in mind that seasonal decorating doesn’t mean you have to spend a ton of money on new decor pieces or even add tons of theme related decor, simply swapping out a few things for lighter options and allowing your home to breathe can easily carry you into springtime goodness without all of the extra fuss.
Be sure to head over to Our Hideaway Home and give my girl Nahyun+ her husband Joel some love and let’s support all of the other talented ladies by checking out their spring home tours below! Everyone worked so hard and I couldn’t be more honored to be among such talented women!

Ashley, I just love your bright and welcoming home! Your entry is one of my favorites and I agree, I think once you style a space it is less likely to become a dumping ground. I do not think I had seen your guest room before and it is so serene, love the coastal feel and pretty pillows. Thanks for the simple, springy inspiration girl!

Caitlin, you are so sweet and totally just made my day! Your home is drop dead gorgeous and I love watching your journey. Haha well, our son has pretty much turned the guest bedroom into a legit health hazard so I don’t post about it often but he is going to be moving out soon and I am hoping I can get both of our extra bedrooms looking good again.
