Let the pumpkin spice bombardment begin because fall has officially arrived yall! When that long-awaited chill finally hits the air that means its time to break out the fall decor and go pumpkin crazy am I right? A fall front porch is the easiest way to bring a little something extra to the exterior of your home, plus its a great way to greet those holiday guests.
Typically I would start inside the house but this year is going to be a little different than most wanna know why? We are FINALLY going to renovate our kitchen!! When I say renovate I mean in the most budget-friendly way possible. A kitchen reno is no easy feat and since I would like to have my kitchen back before Thanksgiving we will be kicking things off this weekend and that really leaves no time or energy for fall decorating.

(Don’t worry I’ll be taking you guys along for the ride during our kitchen reno, you’ll have a front-row seat to the good, the bad, and the ugly!)
On a normal year I don’t go crazy and turn my home into a pumpkin spice latte but I do add a few touches here and there so I am kind of bummed about that part but you know what? I’ll skip fall decorating for a new kitchen any day!!
I went all typical fall last year with lots of oranges, blues and white but this year I wanted to try something different and that’s where the heirloom pumpkins came in! These beauties were on sale at my local grocery store and I just so happen to be the first in line which was great because I was able to pick the best of the bunch.
Aren’t the gorgeous? I love their muted tones and squatty look! If you aren’t able to find any heirloom pumpkins near you they are available to purchase here.
For the past few years, I have been itching to paint our brown front door in an attempt to add some much-needed life to our entry but could never decide on a color. So a few weeks ago when I was lying in bed having one of my midnight thinking sessions it hit me ( I’m a weirdo I know). The door needed to be green! Not just any green though it needed to be a gorgeous deep green just not so deep that you questioned what color it was so a few days later we took off to Sherwin Williams on the hunt for the perfect green paint.
We ended up landing on “Dard Hunter Green” I know it looks like I just spelled that wrong but that’s for real the name of the color…. I’d like to know who names these colors?
Nevertheless, I had been torn between two colors right down to the moment we walked out of the store and I’m so glad I ended up going with this one! It turned out just as I had hoped and I love it so much I might just have to bring the color inside somewhere.
Before we bought our home I had always dreamed of having a wrap around porch, I’d have twin rockers sitting outside and we’d sit out there in the evening and watch the cars go by. We’d talk about life, love and everything in between. So imagine the horror when we ended up buying a home that has an asymmetrical porch!
Of course, my symmetrical dreams were crushed but I didn’t let that stop me from decorating. When dealing with porches such as ours I think it’s important to create a beautiful vignette in the area that you do have. Make the best of a bad situation if you will. You can use things such as mums, pumpkins, baskets, lanterns, blankets, logs the list goes on and also you aren’t stuck to just regular fall decor, bring out other pieces from inside if you think they may look good.
Moving things around and mixing and matching different pieces until you figure out a combination that looks good is key! This year I wanted to use more black since black has been one of my favorite colors lately I thought it would be fun to incorporate some pops of it throughout the decor and I am so glad I did! I love the way it looks against the green backdrop of the front door.
One important thing to remember when trying your hand at decorating your the front porch for fall is to have fun!!! You can’t mess it up, add different pieces until your happy with the look. If things start to feel off and somethings just not right remember a lot of the time texture is the answer so try adding a blanket or weaved basket to the mix and see how it looks then.
I hope you all enjoyed this years fall front porch and I hope you all have a wonderful season full of bonfires, cozy sweaters, and pumpkins!!!
Have you started decorating for fall yet? Do you go all out or do you like subtle touches?
