Happy Friday friends and welcome to this weeks Friday Favorites! Where I discuss things from the week that I love or have inspired me in some way. We have done more work and thrown more stuff away this week than I think we ever have in our lives! Our house has been completely turned upside down and we are currently on our second trip to Goodwill and have barely scratched the surface. During this time I have found myself trying to pinpoint why my mind makes me believe that we need all of this stuff.
Typically when I am trying to rationalize a purchase it goes a little something like this ” Oh you have to get it today what if they don’t have any when you come back” or ” look at that price, there’s no way you can leave here without it”. This isn’t something I do for big ticket items as that usually involves lots of discussion and thinking, but on small items that is what tends to happen.
Gradually our home has become so overrun with “things” that we literally had no space to put anything, even the items we actually use. Thank goodness we haven’t had any overnight guests in the past six months because they wouldn’t have had anywhere to sleep! The entire room we are now making over became my designated storage area, the office area had things everywhere and don’t get me started on our closet!
The longer I think about it the more disturbed I have become. You see none of those things are being used, none of those things are contributing anything to our everyday lives other than causing chaos. We are constantly shuffling things around and every time we get ready to complete a project it takes forever because we have to move all this extra stuff and I am just downright sick of it.
Why do we live in a world that is completely obsessed with consumption? We think the more we have the better off we are and in reality that couldn’t be further from the truth. We have become so discontent with having just enough and the need to obtain more is constantly tapping us on the shoulder.
This entire process of purging our home has really caused me to look at things from a different perspective. The thought of being able to clean our home and it stay that way because the things we own are not taking over every square inch or being able to find things because I don’t have to dig through the latest pile in order to do it.
Those thoughts are what is pushing me, pushing me to free our home from the weight of “stuff”, pushing me to stop consuming and start enjoying this wonderful life that we have been so graciously blessed with. This week has really brought so many of our bad habits to the surface and really forced us to deal with the madness we have slowly created. Fortunately, there will be a light at the end of the clutter tunnel and that my friends will be so refreshing.
This week’s list is so fun and I found several things that make me want to throw my new mantra to the wind and consume consume consume, but I won’t. Maybe you can do it for me 🙂

Opal Dream:  The first time I saw this I absolutely fell in love! The colors are amazing and I envision it with navy or emerald green decor pieces, which is one of the most popular colors of 2017. Honestly, I just think its beautiful and I would love to have it in our home.
Ribbed Brass Canisters: This is what all my home decor dreams are made of! They would look amazing on a set of built-ins or even in the kitchen, I love pieces that have character and these canisters definitely embody that! The antique look they have would be perfect mixed with new items and would give that collected over time look we are all striving for.
Emme Pendant: There isn’t ever a time when I don’t have my eye out for a beautiful light fixture, especially at a great price! This one comes in under $100 and would blend well with so many styles. If your looking to save money but still have a stylish home, deals like this are a great way to achieve that. Our chandelier in the entryway is very rustic which totally clashes with our new and more modern feel, so when I spot something like this it makes me want to bite the bullet and just replace it.
Struan Rug:Â Â Since we bought our house it seems like we have been working on projects and have never got around to doing anything to our dining area. Since this space is open to the kitchen and living area it really needs to be spruced up and rugs are the perfect way to give any space a finished look without having to put in a ton of work. This one is neutral but also has some texture which makes it an easy choice.
Belle Floral Pillow:Â Â While checking out Studio Mcgee’s website the other day I ran across their amazing store Mcgee & Co. They have so many unique decor items and pillows galore! Lately what I have been envisioning for our living area is a buffalo check pattern mixed with a beautiful floral and this one would be absolutely perfect in that combination. The price is average unlike some of the pillows which are totally out of my price range but beautiful nonetheless.
By the time you guys are reading this I will be beginning the first day of my mini vacation and for the first time all year we will be picking our kiddos up from the airport! 🙂 There is not much that excites me more than having our family together and we really do cherish every single moment we have with them. You never realize the little things you can take for granted with your children until you don’t have those things on a daily basis. We all try to do the very best we can with the distance situation but that does not make it any easier and we all miss them so very much.
Also, we will be beginning our journey of becoming a live- in family of four instead of three! We are all so excited and cannot wait to see how Jon adjusts to the new environment and new school. We have worked so hard for the past several weeks preparing our home and making sure everyone has a comfortable space to call their own. So today I will be kicking my feet up and finally breathing a sigh of relief that we managed to get everything done before they arrived and I can finally rest. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we will see you back here Tuesday! Psst, don’t forget to share the love and pin.

Oh my goodness I know! I’m totally in love with the print and think it would look amazing with navy buffalo check. Could be what ends up on our new sofa!
