Welcome to this week’s Friday Favorites, where I discuss things from the week that I love or have inspired me in some way. Over the past week, we have been hustling trying to prepare for the school year to begin. Can you believe summer is almost over? We have ordered school clothes, enrolled Jon into school and picked out backpacks.
This year is exciting for both kids since the oldest will be starting a new school and our youngest gets to go to a camp that the school does every year for her grade. They will spend a week there and every day there will be different activities like horseback riding, hiking, wall climbing, etc. We are glad that she will be able to go but this will be the first time she has been away from us longer than one night unless with family so I’m just a little bit nervous. She, on the other hand, couldn’t be more excited about it.
Since the school year is quickly approaching I have also been looking for new ways to change up our dinner routine. Because let’s face it, it can be easy to get stuck in a repetitive dinner rut and we all know how boring that can be. So this week I gathered several recipes of new things to try, now keep in mind I was never really taught how to cook nor have I ever been very good at it, I mean I can cook basic stuff but nothing fancy. Basically, I don’t have recipe ideas just floating around in my head.
So while perusing Pinterest I found a few things to incorporate into our routine. Luckily there are thousands upon thousands of recipes out there even for the beginners like myself. On Tuesday I made homemade chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce, Wednesday lasagna rolls up (complete with fresh ingredients) and Thursday Hawaiian ham and swiss sliders! They all turned out absolutely amazing and after screwing up hamburger helper last week it felt really good to feed my family something so delicious!
The chicken enchiladas and sliders were the easiest to make and definite favorites of the fam. The lasagna roll ups tasted amazing but it did take me quite a while to prepare everything so it is not something I would recommend on a week night when you have put in a full day’s work the last thing you want to do is stand in the kitchen until 8:00 pm.
If by chance you missed Tuesdays post of my Nordstrom anniversary sale Top Picks be sure to check it out, you still have time to order items at the sale pricing. There are literally hundreds of items on sale including kids clothing. So if you are preparing for back to school, it wouldn’t hurt to check it out.
Also next weekend is also tax-free weekend if you live in the Oklahoma, all shoes and clothes are tax-free Friday, August 4th – Sunday, August 6th. We still have tons of things to get before the kids are finished up but we have put a small dent in our list. In perfect procrastinator fashion I usually wait until the very last-minute to get everything done, but this year I have vowed not to do that. .. We shall see how that goes!
Okay enough chit-chat, let’s get to this week’s Friday Favorites before I find something else to ramble on about.

Grace Framed Print: One day long before I started this blog, I spotted this beautiful print and have been in love with it ever since. The shade of pink is so beautiful and it would look great in a small size propped up inside a set of built-ins or in the larger size as the focal point of the room.
Liane Table Lamp: You can never have too many lighting options and this one is stunning. I love the hammered texture of the base and the shape is very modern. It would look great on a console table in an entry or behind a sofa.
Pink and Navy Rug: Vintage rugs are all the rage right now and this one couldn’t be more perfect. It has a faded distressed look to it and would look great in a runner in the kitchen or even a large 8×10 to add the perfect punch to a living room. This one is a definite contender for our home, I just haven’t decided where it would be showcased best yet.
Elyse Throw: With summer coming to close it’s time to break out the cozy blankets! Winter has always been my favorite time of year, maybe because it is hotter than hells kitchen in Oklahoma during the summer. But it always makes me giddy when the summer sun gives way to chilly evenings. Being at home curled up in my favorite blanket, snuggling with my family is pretty much the perfect evening to me.So during the winter months I like to keep warmer blankets near the sofa for that very reason and this throw looks so cozy and I love the tassel like ends.
Tyler Sunburst Mirror: Nothing makes a statement like a huge, oversized gold sunburst mirror! If you have a large wall space to fill or just want to get as much impact as possible out of one piece, this mirror is the perfect item for the job. The price is great considering the size and the color, gold, need I say more?
This weekend I have several things I would like to get knocked out. Like finishing up my latest blogging course, deep cleaning the house and spending some time with my little before she has to go back to school. Do you have any big plans for this weekend? Any cool updates to your home or fun DIY projects planned? If so I would love to hear about them in the comments section. Also, I have included a pinnable image below for your convenience so remember to show some love by pinning. 🙂
