Now that we are all over our turkey hangover its time to break out the Christmas music if you haven’t already! I’ve been jamming out since November 1st but who’s counting?
I am so excited because today I get to show you what Christmas at our house looks like! This year we went with a Modern Glam Christmas look and I absolutely love how it turned out.
These have always been my favorite posts to read of other bloggers because Christmas is by far my favorite time of year and has been since I was a kid. Both sides of my family have always gone all out for Christmas, and its safe to say it rubbed off on me.
While everyone else is trick or treating I am usually coming up with a plan for our Christmas decor. Some may think I’m crazy but there ain’t no shame in my Christmas game!
Due to the fact that we are pretty much changing every area of our home, I wasn’t able to sprinkle Christmas everywhere like I had hoped but we are just relieved that we were able to get our living area 90% finished before we had family over for the holidays.
In the past, we would have our Christmas tree set up in the back of the house near the wall of windows which was great but it also made things feel a little less intimate. So since we sold our old furniture several months ago we decided that between the built-ins would be the perfect spot for it.

And what a difference it made having the tree right there where it doesn’t feel like it’s in the next room has definitely gotten us all into the holiday spirit and made me question why we ever put it anywhere else, to begin with.
With the Christmas tree lighting the room and having it between the built-ins brings the tree front and center and I don’t know about you guys but there is nothing I love more than curling up on the sofa .There is something so magical about all of the twinkling lights and beautiful ornaments.
For many years we have stuck with traditional Christmas colors when it came time to decorate the tree but this year we really wanted something different to go with our new space. So since brass is such a big part of our home decor style we decided to go with gold everything! Basically my dream tree.
This year I also wanted to try a tree collar instead of the traditional tree skirt but I knew I wanted a brass version and since tree collars are actually kind of hard to find, I had absolutely no idea where to get one.
After scouring the internet for what seemed like hours I finally spotted this beauty! Crate and Barrel for the win y’all! Plus it didn’t hurt that they had a 15% off sale going on when I ordered. Unfortunately, it is currently out of stock but I will keep watching and update this once it is back in stock.
It surprised me that out of all of the places crate and barrel actually carry multiple versions and this hammered brass version is absolutely stunning in person.
The collar completely sets the tone for the entire look and I love how amazing it turned out even though we used the same color throughout we added dimension by using ornaments and pics of varying shades and textures.
Our tree is a 9 ft tall prelit with clear lights and you wouldn’t believe how inexpensive it was if I told you! If you are in the market for a new tree this one is perfect! We have used it for two seasons now and have had no issues that were the fault of the tree or its craftsmanship.
We did have one bulb break this year which we were able to easily fix it with the lighting kit that comes with it.
One thing I have noticed this season that has become a huge trend are flocked trees! Everybody and their momma has one and as much as I love the look of them I went ahead and stuck with our traditional tree this time around. I have never been the type to like looking just like everyone else so I am actually enjoying being all “nonflockin” over here!
Our fireplace has never been something we have loved to look at and our feelings are still the same today. Remember earlier when I said our living area was 90% finished? Well, the fireplace is that other 10%.
This monster is so big that it literally gives me nightmares and I worry about the giant can of worms we would be opening if we decided to scrap the entire thing and start over.
So, for now, the plan is to redo what is currently there and later if we decide we want to do something else we can. Just the thought of this no longer being a giant red brick eyesore makes me giddy and as much as I wish we could finish it out right now we just didn’t have the time to get it all done before the holidays.
Aside from the color and size, I do love having a fireplace. It is great for those chilly nights when we are sitting around watching movies and the kiddos love having a place to hang their stockings.
I know giant TVs or TVs period are one of the last things you typically see on home design blogs but we are tv people and I pretty much refuse to become so obsessed with the way my home is perceived that I push to downsize or get rid of our tv completely.
By this time next year, we will have all of our main areas finished and I can go from room to room decorating for the holidays which I am so excited about!
When I am feeling stressed or downright exhausted with the process I just keep telling myself, one day it will all be completely done then I can relax. But honestly how in the world could I be stressed when I have this beautiful tree to stare at, our dog Sparkles loves it too!

Thank you so much friend! I went with something much simpler this year and I’m loving it so far.

Same tree and star on top, my sister and I put up only ornaments that have a special meaning, (like where we were living at the time, Germany etc.,) wonderful memories as we put it up!

That’s amazing Joan! The old ornaments with lots of memories are the best. This is the first year I haven’t used a zillion old ornaments and stuffed my tree with Ribbon etc. I love the simpler look but the old ornaments will definitely be making a comeback next year.
