Today I am feeling so very fortunate, so many families have been affected by the recent hurricanes and my heart truly breaks for them. In no way could I even fathom suffering something that devastating and our thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of them. It seems almost wrong to be talking about design when so many don’t even have a warm place to lay their head let alone worry about decorating but maybe this could be an escape from the gloom for someone out there so I will continue on.
Imagine a space that is attempting to be shabby chic farmhouse but is doing a shitty job at it and that my friends is the current state of our entry, I want to take it from wanna-be farmhouse and turn it into a gorgeous Modern Glam Entryway. It has always been a headache for me because, in the beginning, we thought that we would be better off having some storage there for backpacks, shoes, etc. Boy were we wrong!
You see, that turned into one child having 5000 pairs of shoes basically sitting at the front door greeting any guests we may have, and most of the time the backpacks never even make it to the bench unless I put them there. Typical mom thing I know. Basically, the space has never been my favorite and I actually began to loathe it after a while because no matter what it was always messy.
Most of the time the entryway is the first impression that guests see once they come into your home and this is a place that tells them how the home is going to feel and maybe even a little bit about you and your family, so I have always wanted this area to really reflect who we are as a family and of course be beautiful at the same time!
The first thing that needs to be done is the one thing I really don’t care for and that is painting! Mostly because I am just not the best at it and it bores me to tears. Nevertheless, it has to be done so out with the old and in with the new!

Our entry opens up to the main living area and for the most part, the entire area is open other than the wall of built-ins and double sided fireplace so it is very important that the entire area feels cohesive. We have tried several paint colors over the years and tried more grays than I can count but Sherwin Williams Repose Gray never disappoints so that is the color we are going with for nearly every space in our home.
Next, I plan to do away with all of the farmhouse decor and swap out the bench for a console table with baskets or x-leg benches underneath which I think will help the area look clean and get all of the shoes that accumulate by the thousand into the bedroom where they belong.
The area is dying for some kind of “wow factor” and a framed canvas or beautiful framed print will be just the ticket. We have purchased so many gorgeous prints lately it’s hard to imagine not using one of them but I have had my eye on several abstract paintings for a while now and I think that I may end up going with one of them in the end. Either that or a beautiful brass round mirror, what are your thoughts? Mirror or abstract?
One thing that is an absolute must have in this space is a vintage rug, I have literally been drooling over them for so long and I cannot imagine redoing this space without one. The question is how much to spend and what colors to go with. If you have ever looked into an authentic vintage rug then you totally feel my pain, the price tag on these beauties literally makes me want to sell my car so I can get one! You think I could ride my new rug to work? For real they are so expensive but something like this is going to last for many many years to come and the style factor they bring to any space is literally off the charts!

If you can’t afford to drop a grand on a 3×7 runner don’t worry I have sourced several authentic vintage rugs that are priced extremely well compared to most. For those of you that don’t mind the cost there are also a few that are more expensive.
Then comes the color dilemma, I love the pink and Navy/ turquoise but they are really hard to find and I have to ask myself, how long will I really love a bright colored rug? I have a tendency to add in pops of color with accessories etc. So adding all of that with a rug would throw things off a bit and I am just not sure if I am ready for that.
The thing I am most excited about is being able to walk into our home and drop my keys, purse or mail down on the console table and not have fifty pairs of kids shoes under my feet. I know me and I know if there is no place for them in the entry then I will turn into the shoe police which will hopefully have the kids storing their shoes in the bedroom in no time.
The items I have chosen for the space are a nice mixture of modern glam and boho. Honestly, I love the direction our home is headed and finishing this entryway will give me the push I need to finish the living area which has been the hardest space to date. The fact that everything is so open and that I have the fireplace and built-ins to deal with has definitely slowed me down a ton when it comes to the living room. I just cannot decide on some key factors and I am trying my best to really take my time and let this room come together since to me it is the most important room in our house.
This entryway will no doubt be the driving force behind our entire main area being finished and it will really allow me to get my mind off things for a bit, which usually works perfectly when I seem to be stuck on something and I must admit the area is such an undertaking that its giving me fits y’all!
Let me know which entry plan you like best in the comments section, I cannot wait to hear your thoughts. Please be so kind and share this post by pinning the image below. 🙂
